Another USA adoption of Nordic noir this year! But, well, it is always good to see the original, to truly understand why people adore it in the first place.
A exciting collaboration between Denmark and Sweden, and, in my opinion, hints the future of Nordic noir. As a disfigured body is found on a border bridge between two countries, Saga Norén, an intelligent Danish police officer with Asperger's syndrome, and Martin Rohde, an married Swedish detective, are brought together to investigate the dead body that blocked the busy bridge. Developing upon such foundation, a cross-country crime story begins and, with the evil scriptwriters, is ended with a rather depressing finale.
The show is quite enjoyable, like all the other Nordic noir I have watched, and is relatively delightful, for seeing the progress of the relationship between Saga and Martin. From the antagonistic beginning over the control of the crime scene, Martin gradually accommodates Saga's weir-but-straightforward personality and Saga learns to understand human emotions. With the second season coming to BBC soon, I am looking forward to see how their friendship proceeds.
